FT. LAUDERDALE -– The San Jose Sharks chose right wing Timo Meier with the ninth overall selection in the NHL Entry Draft at BB&T Center on Friday night.
The 6-foot-1, 209-pound Swiss native led Halifax in goals with 44 last season, and was second on the team with 90 points. Meier, 18, was the highest-ranked player coming out of the QMJHL, and was ranked 10th overall by NHL Central Scouting among North American skaters.
It’s the fourth straight year the Sharks have chosen a European native in the first round, and second from Switzerland (Mirco Mueller, 2013).
