If the Sharks were thinking about making a run at improving their postseason standing, they sure didn’t play like it Thursday night.
San Jose coughed up the puck on Vancouver’s first three goals and played with little desperation and poise throughout a 4-2 loss to the lowly Canucks before 15,689 fans at SAP Center.
“Everyone in this room knows there’s still an opportunity to get home ice in the first round, and second round as well,” forward Logan Couture said. “We should be playing for our lives, and we didn’t tonight.”
Forward Jannik Hansen broke a 2-2 tie with his 20th goal of the season at 14:57 of the third period, capping a 2-on-1 break when Joe Thornton and Brent Burns failed to connect on a pass.
