Sharks’ DeBoer era begins with 5-1 win in L.A.

Los Angeles - The Sharks ushered in the Peter DeBoer era by playing just the kind of game their new coach drew up.

Pressuring the host Kings all over the ice, opportunistic San Jose skated out of the Staples Center on opening night with a convincing 5-1 victory over their rivals during DeBoer’s debut.

Speaking of successful first games, Martin Jones rallied from surrendering a goal on his first shot faced to turn back his former teammates. Jones made 19 saves to start his Sharks’ career on a winning note.

A lot of familiar names scored goals, led the first of the year by newly appointed captain Joe Pavelski in addition to his two assists.
