Sharks coach Pete DeBoer turning penalty no-calls into hot issue

ST. LOUIS -- The two coaches in the Western Conference Finals of the NHL playoffs, Pete DeBoer of the Sharks and Ken Hitchcock of the St. Louis Blues, had a verbal exchange through the media Monday over the number of penalties called in Game 1.

DeBoer noted, not for the first time, that the Blues are one of the more penalized teams in the NHL and that the officials should call games in corresponding fashion. Hitchcock called DeBoer's comments "whining for calls."In the Blues' 2-1 victory Sunday night, St. Louis forward Steve Ott played his normal agitating role and had three hits in 7:20 of ice time.
