SAN JOSE - Sharks forward Ben Smith and defenseman Brent Burns will compete for their respective countries in the Men’s Hockey World Championships, it was announced on Tuesday.
The tournament runs from May 1-17 in the Czech Republic.
Smith, 26, a North Carolina native, was acquired by the Sharks on March 2 from Chicago. In 19 games, he posted two goals and five points with a +3 rating, skating primarily as the fourth line center. He has 25 goals and 44 points in 175 career NHL games.
Burns, 30, finished 2014-15 with 60 points, tied for second in the NHL among defensemen in points and fourth in goals (17).
