Sharks 3, Flames 1: Thornton’s night, Goodrow’s game-changer and the kids ‘surprise’ their coach

CALGARY — Joe Thornton picks the puck up at center ice, comes across the blue line with some speed, pivots to his right and finds Brent Burns, who takes a stride before whistling a slap shot past Calgary Flames goalie David Rittich.

Thornton then wins a battle for the puck inside the Flames’ zone and passes it ahead to Timo Meier, who taps it to Kevin Labanc. Labanc then cuts to the middle of the ice and sends a backhand shot past Rittich.

Perhaps there have been questions about what Thornton is still capable of as he plays in his 22nd NHL season.
