San Jose Sharks' fourth line needs to straighten up

SAN JOSE -- By now, Sharks fans should be pretty familiar with the concept of "rolling four lines", a key ingredient in head coach Pete DeBoer's brand of pressure hockey.

Since the first day of training camp, DeBoer has preached about the importance of turning the Sharks into a true four-line team that doesn't rely solely on its top-six forwards as it had so often in past seasons. But with an opportunity to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Sharks first round Stanley Cup playoff series with the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, DeBoer benched his fourth line for most of the third period and overtime, leaning heavily on his top lines, a trend that can't continue if the team is going to play deep into the spring this year.
