Rewind: Penalties, soft defense cost Sharks in latest loss

When the charter flight landed in San Jose after the Sharks swept their six-game road trip, they found themselves in a tie for first place in the Pacific Division.

Six games later they’re a whole lot closer to the bottom than the top. The Calgary Flames, who entered Tuesday night in last place in the NHL, outskated the defensively impaired Sharks in a 4-2 win at the Saddledome, giving San Jose its fifth regulation loss in the last six games.

San Jose remains in second in the Pacific Division but is a full nine points behind Los Angeles, and just four points ahead of last place Edmonton, whom they face on Wednesday night at Rexall Place.
