Rangers beat Capitals, force Game 6

Ryan McDonagh scored 9:37 into overtime and the Rangers kept their Stanley Cup hopes alive with a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals in New York on Friday in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Chris Kreider breathed life into the Presidents’ Trophy winners by scoring with 1:41 left in regulation to force overtime.

The Capitals lead the series 3-2. Game 6 is Sunday in Washington.

Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves for the Rangers.

“We are still alive,” Lundqvist said. “Being in their shoes, we’ve been there.
