Tanner Pearson scored with 1:50 left in overtime as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the host New York Rangers 5-4 on Friday night.
Anze Kopitar recorded a hat trick and Marian Gaborik added a goal for Los Angeles, which improved to 8-1 in overtime.
“We’ve had good luck 3-on-3,” Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter said. “Our record is right there and that is probably why we are in a playoff spot.”
Trailing 4-3 with 30 seconds left in regulation, Kopitar completed his third NHL hat trick with a shot that ricocheted off Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein past former Sharks goalie Antti Raanta.
