On this date, 2004: Sharks, Nabokov silence Calgary in playoff victory

The Sharks did what they absolutely, positively had to do Thursday night.

Error 0:

First, they beat the Calgary Flames with conviction, 3-0, to keep hope alive in the NHL’s Western Conference finals.

Second, they caught no cases of mad cow disease, even though an irate fan tossed a cow tongue on the ice in the final minutes of a game.

“Is that what is was, a cow tongue?” asked the Sharks’ Mike Ricci. “If that’s what it was, that’s the first time I’ve seen that.”

For the record, he had no beef about the incident.
