Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored two goals and Taylor Hall had a goal and two assists as host Edmonton beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Tuesday night, a win that comes at the cost of an injury to Connor McDavid, the Oilers’ first draft pick this year.
Head coach Todd McLellan said after the game that McDavid, who had 12 points in his first 12 games, will be out long term with an upper-body injury.
With the Flyers leading 2-1 late in the second, McDavid had a partial shorthanded breakaway but fell awkwardly and was ridden hard into the boards by Philadelphia defensemen Michael Del Zotto and Brandon Manning, who also lost their balance on the play.
