Canucks' forward Jake Virtanen suspended for hit on Sharks' Roman Polak

SAN JOSE -- Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen will have a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety Wednesday for his late hit on Sharks defenseman Roman Polak during Tuesday's game at Rogers Arena.

Polak was hit by Virtanen 2:01 into the second period roughly two seconds after he had released the puck up the ice in the neutral zone. Virtanen made shoulder to shoulder contact with Polak, who remained on the ice for several moments after the hit. Virtanen was given a five minute penalty for interference and a game misconduct. Polak was able to skate off the ice under his own power before he went to the Sharks' dressing room.
