2017 NHL Draft: Sharks select Ivan Chekhovich in seventh round

Using a pick acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in the Andrew Desjardins trade, the Sharks drafted Ivan Chekhovich in the seventh round, 212th overall.

The Russian forward plays for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL and also represented Team Russia internationally at the World Juniors Championship. His time in the QMJHL has Chekhovich at a nearly point-per-game player, with 59 points in 60 games. Chekhovich is a left-handed shot, who is comfortable at both center and left wing.

He is the first and only non-North American player selected by the Sharks in this year’s entry draft.
