Wondolowski, Alashe lead Quakes past Red Bulls

SAN JOSE -- The Earthquakes ended a three-game winless streak Wednesday night with a homely performance that lacked pizazz in a 2-0 victory over the visiting New York Red Bulls.

But San Jose wasn't looking for style points in front of a sellout crowd of 18,000 in a Major League Soccer game at Avaya Stadium. The Quakes (3-1-2) just want points any way they can get them. They got all three for their third home victory at Avaya this year thanks to Chris Wondolowski's fifth goal in six games and Fatai Alashe's first. What they lacked in buildup and possession San Jose made up in hunkering down to hand New York (1-5-0) its fifth defeat -- all by shutouts.
