The excitement generated from the first week of the Chris Leitch era took a hit on Tuesday.

The San Jose Earthquakes suffered their first defeat under the guidance of their new head coach, dropping a 4-2 decision on the road against Atlanta United after being forced to play with 10 men for nearly an hour of the match.

After a promising start that saw San Jose take an early 1-0 lead just a couple of minutes into the game, things took a turn in the 32nd minute when Kofi Sarkodie was disciplined for a reckless slide into Yamil Asad that took out the midfielder and earned Sarkodie his second yellow card of the match, forcing him to exit.
