SAN JOSE — Rookie midfielder Lindo Mfeka has signed a multiyear contract with the Earthquakes and will play this season mostly for their club affiliate in Reno, the team announced Thursday.
General manager Jesse Fioranelli called the South African a “promising talent” who played four years at the University of South Florida. The Quakes selected Mfeka as the 28th overall pick in this year’s MLS college draft.
“In an effort to consider Lindo joining our first team in 2018, we will follow and accompany him closely this season,” Fioranelli said in a statement.
The left-footed Mfeka, 22, will join fellow Quakes rookie midfielder Jackson Yueill with Reno 1868 FC of the United Soccer League’s Western Conference.
