The Earthquakes have lost out in their efforts to bring right-side midfielder Alberto Quintero back this season.
Quintero, 29, has signed with Universitario de Deportes, the Peruvian club announced Sunday night. The Panamanian international played in San Jose last season while on loan from la Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla (BUAP), a second-division Mexican club. He had three goals and four assists in 30 appearances and was part of the Quakes’ Panamanian pipeline that includes Anibal Godoy and newcomer Harold Cummings.
San Jose coach Dominic Kinnear had said the team wanted Quintero to return, but also had targeted others to fill the right wing should they fail to reach a deal.
