Chris Wondolowski started things off, and Quincy Amarikwa polished off the Portland Timbers in fine fashion with a classy, long-distance chip in the San Jose Earthquakes' 2-1 home victory Sunday afternoon at Avaya Stadium.
Wondolowski turned in an Anibal Godoy cross at the 30-minute mark for his second goal in as many games this season, and Amarikwa floated a perfectly placed lob over the head of Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey just inside the far post right before halftime for San Jose’s second consecutive win to start the season.
Jack McInerney opened his Timbers account, pulling one back in the 89th minute after a scramble in front of goal.
