PORTLAND, Ore. -- A two-week break couldn't come at a better time for the San Jose Earthquakes.
With several players banged up and four more gone for national duty, the Earthquakes limped into Portland on Wednesday already down. Then they lost their coach. Dropping the match was only the next logical step.San Jose's 1-0 loss to Portland was the team's fourth loss in seven tries on the road this season, but that took a backseat to news that head coach Dominic Kinnear didn't travel with the team after he was involved in a minor car accident Wednesday morning.Kinnear, 48, wasn't seriously injured in the accident, but a team official said he remained in the Bay Area because he "wasn't fit to travel.
