SANTA CLARA — A year after the Bay Area held some of the country’s biggest soccer games, Levi’s Stadium has been awarded the most prestigious event of the coming summer: the Gold Cup final July 26.
The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced Wednesday that Levi’s will play host to the regional tournament final a year after it successfully held four Copa America games.
“Levi’s Stadium has quickly earned a place among America’s top venues in terms of atmosphere, amenities and fan experience,” CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani said in a statement. “We’re proud to now bring the final of the Gold Cup – the region’s top competition for national teams – to the Bay Area, building on the resounding success of our Copa America Centenario opener, which drew record crowds last year.
