Earthquakes forward and captain Chris Wondolowski scored a second-half equalizer against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday evening. It was a seemingly standard Wondo goal, using excellent off-the-ball movement and clinical finishing, but this was no ordinary strike. Wondolowski, who played in Houston from 2006 to 2009, had never scored against his former team in eight previous contests. For whatever reason, the men clad in bright orange kits had never fished a ball from their own net kicked by San Jose’s No. 8 – until Sunday.
Wondolowski was finally able to rip the monkey off his back and is now one of just two player in MLS history to score against 21 different clubs, including the now-defunct Chivas USA.
