SAN JOSE – San Jose tied for the worst margin of defeat in its MLS history Saturday, falling 5-0 to Los Angeles FC at Avaya Stadium.
The Quakes (0-4-0) had at least been competitive in their first three games under new coach Matias Almeyda, outscoring their opponents 2-1 in the first half before being outclassed after the break. But even the silver lining of a fast start wasn’t there on Saturday, as LAFC (4-0-1) dominated from the start and added to its league-leading points total.
The first goal was indicative of the Earthquakes effort — San Jose keeper Daniel Vega whiffed on a clear, allowing Carlos Vela to dribble the ball into the net eight minutes into the game.
