SAN JOSE -- It was too little too late for the Earthquakes as they failed to carry over momentum from their first road win of the year in a sloppy 2-1 loss against Houston on Friday.
The Quakes (7-7-10) got off to a sluggish start, missing their target on simple passes and turning the ball over multiple times. Houston (5-10-9) caught the San Jose defense off guard in the sixth minute when Ricardo Clark snuck by a defender and scored off a well-placed low cross to give the Dynamo an early 1-0 lead. Clark's goal was his second against the Quakes this season and left the crowd at Avaya Stadium silent as they appeared to be in disbelief that their team was now trailing the cellar dwellers of the Western Conference at home.
