SAN JOSE — Chris Wondolowski’s international career will continue after U.S. coach Bruce Arena named the Earthquakes captain to the 25-player roster Sunday for the final two World Cup qualifying games in the North and Central and Caribbean region.
Four other Quakes players were called to duty for the FIFA break that puts the Major League Soccer season on hold in its final weeks. Defender Kip Colvey (New Zealand), midfielders Anibal Godoy (Panama) and Valeri Qazaishvili (Georgia) and forward Marco Ureña (Costa Rica) joined their respective national teams for World Cup qualifiers and international friendlies.
The Americans’ chances of advancing to the 2018 World Cup in Russia could hinge on a game Friday in Orlando against Panama.
