Earthquakes miss the mark in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. — The post saved the San Jose Earthquakes the first two times, however the third time proved to be the charm for the Portland Timbers.

After surviving a first-half onslaught which included two Timbers’ shots off the frame, the Earthquakes finally succumbed in Friday night’s 2-0 loss when a Diego Valeri shot bested keeper David Bingham, the ball banking off the right post and finding into the back of the net for the winning score.

It was the second straight loss for the Quakes (5-6-4), who will return to MLS action at home against Kansas City on June 17.
