Chris Wondolowski became the first member of the Earthquakes to earn MLS player of the week honors this year.
The North American Soccer Reporters announced Tuesday the Quakes captain won the award for his play in the final game of the regular season. Wondolowski had a goal and his career-best eighth assist in stoppage time Sunday as Marco Urena scored for a 3-2 victory over Minnesota United FC.
The victory catapulted the Earthquakes into the MLS Cup playoffs for the first time since 2012. Had San Jose ended the game in a tie it would have fallen behind FC Dallas for the final playoff berth in the Western Conference.
