Rich Aurilia had looked forward to watching his former Giants teammate, and current wine business partner, Dave Roberts manage the Los Angeles Dodgers this postseason.
Then came the raging fires that have devastated Northern California’s famed Wine Country with a reported 15 deaths and 2,000 homes, businesses and other buildings destroyed.
The condition of his and Roberts’ winery wasn’t on Aurilia’s mind Tuesday while recounting the heartbreak of seeing close friends lose their homes and businesses in Santa Rosa.
The Aurilia family had dined at the house of wine mentor Dan Kosta on Sunday. Later that night, the founder of Kosta Browne Wines lost that home near Cardinal Newman High School.
