CHICAGO - When Buster Posey appeared to have stolen home Friday night, perhaps nobody in a Giants uniform was happier than Vince Coleman.
“I was going to be Coach of the Year,” Coleman quipped.
Coleman, who ranks sixth all time in stolen bases with 752 and reached 100 his first three seasons, is the Giants’ minor-league roving baserunning instructor and spending the season’s final month with the big-league team.
Everyone in the Giants’ dugout assumed Posey had stolen home when he scored, but the official scorer ruled it a fielder’s choice.
With runners on first and third, Brandon Crawford broke from first on a 3-2 pitch to Hunter Pence, and catcher Kevan Smith threw to second.
