Most San Francisco Giants fans know about Mike Yastrzemski’s famous athletic heritage: He’s the grandson of Boston Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski.
But the two baseball players aren’t the only famous athletes in the family. A third member of the Yastrzemski clan could soon become a household name with the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. U.S. men’s national soccer team head coach Gregg Berhalter is Carl Yastrzemski’s godson and cousin, which makes him a distant cousin of Mike Yastrzemski as well.
Berhalter, who will lead the Stars and Stripes in their opener against Wales on Monday, learned to love soccer above all else.
