Late Tuesday night, shortly after it was announced that Gerrit Cole was signing with the New York Yankees, a rumor started circulating that the Dodgers (who took the Giants’ usual place of “also-ran” in the quest for Cole) would be shifting their focus to pursuing Madison Bumgarner.
For me, I think my visceral negative reaction was more of an instinctive reaction to the Dodgers, also the Dodgers getting any player, but most especially the Dodgers getting a former Giants player. But ultimately it’s not the end of the world if he signs there. I wouldn’t fault him if they offered him the best contract.
