The champions of the world. That has a nice ring to it and Team USA can say just that after beating the undefeated Puerto Rico, 8-0, to win the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
This is the United States' first time winning the WBC in its fourth year of existence. Prior to this year, the best finish Team USA had was fourth place in 2009.
Marcus Stroman earned the win with a brilliant six innings of one-hit ball. The Toronto Blue Jays ace went six no-hit innings until former Giants outfielder Angel Pagan broke up the bid with a double to lead off the seventh inning.
