Sunday BP: Giants appear arbitration bound with Donovan Solano

Hello and happy Sunday.

Over the weekend, the San Francisco Giants agreed to a deal with right-handed reliever Reyes Moronta. That left just one of the Giants tendered players without a contract: second baseman Donovan Solano. And it appears that the Giants and Solano will head to arbitration, as they filed at prices roughly $650,000 apart, and were unable to find a spot to compromise on, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

Donovan Solano filed for $3.9 million, while the Giants countered at $3.25 million. Midpoint: $3.575 million.

Of all the players the Giants tendered, Solano seemed the most likely to head to arbitration, given that he was sensational in 2020, but prior to 2019 — his age 31 season — he had basically no history of being a good MLB player.
