SF Giants pitcher sets depressing franchise record

There’s no question that Giants pitcher Justin Verlander is a future Hall of Famer. But the first half of his first season in San Francisco is setting some rather depressing records.

Verlander made his 12th start of the season on Tuesday and took another loss after allowing three runs in five innings to the Marlins, who entered Tuesday in last place in the National League East. With the 4-2 loss, Verlander’s 12-game stretch of winless starts to begin a season is now the longest in the franchise’s 143-year history.

In some ways, this isn’t a surprising development.
