As the calendar nears Christmas and the MLB offseason drags on, the San Francisco Giants have made their first splashy addition of the winter, acquiring a ... 103-year-old theater.
On Thursday, the Giants announced they have purchased the Curran Theatre, a 1,600-seat theater on Geary Street just two blocks from Union Square, from its previous owner, Carole Shorenstein Hays. The theater opened in 1922 and has hosted numerous off-Broadway shows.
Shorenstein Hays, a former Tony Award-winning theater producer, was both an owner and the primary operator of the facility from 2010 until 2019, when she lost a long legal battle with her former partner Robert Nederlander and was ousted.
