DENVER — The 2018 Opening Day starter for the San Francisco Giants is now a member of the Baltimore Orioles.
Ty Blach, who was designated for assignment last week, was claimed by the Orioles on Saturday and added to Baltimore’s 40-man roster.
The left-hander appeared in 87 games and made 39 starts over parts of four seasons with the Giants and helped lead the club to an Opening Day win over the Dodgers last season. After Madison Bumgarner suffered a fractured pinky in his final spring training start, Blach stepped in to make a spot start and tossed five scoreless innings of three-hit ball in a 1-0 victory.
