Report: Giants sign Georgia prep pitching prospect to massive overslot deal

The San Francisco Giants have signed ninth-round pick Reid Worley for a $747,500 signing bonus, according to a report by Jim Callis of MLB.com. A right-handed pitcher drafted out of a Georgia high school, Worley had been committed to play baseball at Kennesaw State. However, he will now forego collegiate baseball to pursue a pro career with the Giants organization.

Worley’s deal is significantly over slot for where he was selected ($204,400) and will require the Giants to spend slightly less than slot for the remainder of their selections. Worley is likely receiving a $750,000 total bonus, but teams are allowed to give players a $2,500 bonus after signing that does not count against the team’s bonus pool.
