Report: Giants playoff hero among two hitters who elect free agency

The man who got the Giants past the Mets in the 2016 NL Wild Card Game is moving on from San Francisco.

Veteran third baseman Conor Gillaspie and longtime minor leaguer Carlos Moncrief elected to put their names into free agency once it starts following the World Series, according to Baseball America.

Gillaspie, 30, smacked a three-run, ninth-inning homer last October that propelled the Giants past the Mets in a 3-0 wild card victory. (On a smaller but more recent stage, he celebrated his 30th birthday this July with a pinch-hit double that set up an extra-innings win.
