Rain puts Giants-Dodgers rivalry on hold

SAN FRANCISCO — Even Mother Nature had trouble making up her mind about the Giants vs. Dodgers on Monday night at AT&T Park.

With thunder and lightning putting on the show to the east, the Giants’ ground crew tarped the infield an hour before the 7:15 p.m. first pitch, and a rain delay ensued.

What else could go wrong for these two teams? The Dodgers arrived riding a 10-game losing streak — equaling their longest since moving from Brooklyn to Los Angeles 59 years ago — and with 15 defeats in their previous 16 games.

Even so, the first-place Dodgers began the day 37 games ahead of their historic rival in the NL West standings.
