Q&A with Steve Decker on Giants' unique challenge of developing power hitters

SAN FRANCISCO – Over the last 12 years, 139 National League players have hit 30 home runs in a season. None of them have been Giants.

The Giants haven’t had a 30-home run hitter since Barry Bonds in 2004. They have come to terms with the fact that, Sunday’s cavalcade of clouts aside, the long ball will not win them many games.

As hitting coach Hensley “Bam Bam” Meulens said of power, “You would like to have it, but if you don’t have it, you don’t have it. You can’t just create it.”

Ah, but you can develop it, right?
