The SF Giants called up top prospect Bryce Eldridge to the big leagues on Monday and in a corresponding move they optioned outfielder Luis Matos to Triple-A. This move throws Matos' future with the Giants into question.
Matos has had an odd year with San Francisco. He made the club out of spring training but seemed ill-suited for a bench role so he was sent back to Triple-A and has been back and forth between Triple-A and the majors all season.

He has always seemed like a guy who would benefit from seeing an extended period of time in the lineup where he could establish a rhythm and it seemed that opportunity finally presented itself after the team traded away outfielder Mike Yastrzemski at the trade deadline.
