The San Francisco Giants’ big name acquisition this offseason has been playing like anything but that, and there’s no concrete reason why.
Willy Adames is currently on pace for the worst statistical season of his eight-year career in the majors. That would be bad for any free agent signing, but what makes this year’s struggles particularly problematic is that they’re happening while Adames is under the largest contract in the Giants’ history — a seven-year, $182 million deal. Even worse, they come when the ball club needs his bat now more than ever in the hotly contested National League West race.
