That damn check swing.
I’m not sure when, if, or how I’m ever going to fully get over the atrocious call – forever to be known to Giants fans as The Check Swing – that ended the Giants’ historic season. It caused a pain that I hadn’t felt in a long time, one that had been diluted by World Series championships and the greatest run of success in franchise history.
So many bad feelings came flooding back – Candy Maldonado’s slide, Bobby Jones, 2002, Jose Cruz Jr. dropping the fly ball, Steve Finley – that for a brief moment, it was almost as though those even year titles hadn’t happened.
