Newest Giant Jimmy Rollins: “I couldn’t stand these colors growing up”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Stepping out of the batting cage on his first day in Giants camp, Jimmy Rollins glanced down at his black and orange workout attire and flashed that familiar, gap-toothed grin.

“I couldn’t stand these colors growing up,” said the Alameda native, whose boyhood allegiance ran green and gold.

Rollins embraces Giants colors now. He is 38 years old. He hasn’t seen a competitive pitch in eight months going on eternity, after being released by the Chicago White Sox last June. The three-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner and 2007 NL MVP with the Philadelphia Phillies made a jarring transition from September pennant drives to driving his kids to school.
