If the Giants beat the Dodgers, win World Series, Vegas is screwed

Even after the Giants repeatedly put eggs on the faces of those who expected the team to flounder this year with their odds-defying season, they still have a chance to make people look silly, and empty a few pockets along the way, with a deep postseason run that ends in a championship.

ESPN reported on Friday that a World Series win for San Francisco would be financially devastating for Las Vegas oddsmakers. Despite entering the postseason with the best record in baseball, the Giants still sit at 100-1 odds to win the whole shebang.

These sorts of stories always seem to bubble up whenever an underdog team or athlete reaches heights beyond expectation, but what’s particularly interesting about this news is that the doubting has continued, even after a 162-game sample size showing how darn good these Giants are at baseball.
