Hunter Pence delivers twice for Giants in win over Rockies

SAN FRANCISCO — On the night major league baseball broke its all-time record for home runs in a season, the Giants did something out of character.

They contributed to the total.

But it wasn’t Hunter Pence’s go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning that beat the Rockies 4-3 on Tuesday night.

After Colorado tied the score against reliever Hunter Strickland in the eighth, Pence delivered the game-winner in the the ninth, a sacrifice fly to center with the bases loaded.

The Giants won it after Pablo Sandoval beat out a slow roller to third — his third hit of the game — Ryder Jones was safe on a sacrifice bunt try, and Kelby Tomlinson singled sharply to right, loading the bases with no outs.
