SAN DIEGO — Hunter Pence, his days with the Giants down to a precious few, is not ambling slowly to the finish. He grips a bat that he is determined to wield with zeal and pop until the last day he is allowed to wear a uniform.
The 35-year-old whirling dervish made that perfectly clear in Tuesday night’s 5-4 victory at Petco Park, which ensured the Giants will win the season series against last-place San Diego after they lost it last year.
