PHOENIX - Thursday afternoon was a sad one in Giantsville. Johnny Cueto was on an operating table in Los Angeles having Tommy John surgery, and the club learned Pablo Sandoval was headed for the knife as well with a hamstring injury that will end his season.
Thursday night was a salve. The Giants played an excellent game against one of the National League West co-leaders and won 8-1, a rare event for San Francisco this year that featured almost too many positives to list in one breath.
