After years of being outbid by the Dodgers and other big-market teams for top international prospects, the Giants have made it clear they are now a major player in this space.
Just three months after landing Bahamian shortstop Lucius Fox, San Francisco has signed Cuban outfielder Eddy Julio Martinez. MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez was the first to report the news.
The 20-year-old -- ranked the No. 4 international prospect by MLB.com -- inked a minor-league deal paying him $2.5 million, according to Sanchez. Because the Giants have already exceeded their 2015-16 international bonus pool budget, the contract will cost them $5 million total.
