Giants scratch Buster Posey because of neck stiffness

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Giants scratched Buster Posey from Wednesday night’s exhibition lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers because of a stiff neck.

Posey was due to bat third and catch Matt Cain in a game that will be telecast on CSN Bay Area. But Giants fans will have to wait to get a glimpse of the 2012 NL MVP.

Posey’s neck stiffness was termed minor, and there is plenty of time for him to get the workload he needs to be ready for the regular season. But the Giants were hoping to get Posey somewhat close to ready to play a full game by Monday, when he and shortstop Brandon Crawford depart for Team USA’s camp in preparation for the World Baseball Classic.
